The Board of Directors of the Art Factory today announced the appointment of Lisa J. Marks as its new Executive Director effective November 14th.
According to Peggy Ruth Geren, Ed.D., Board President, Ms. Marks brings “extensive experience in nonprofit management after more than 11 years as an Executive Director and Regional CEO with the American Red Cross; personal commitment to arts education and community development; expertise in developing and implementing effective strategic plans; and proven success in public relations and fundraising.”
“The Art Factory is excited about Lisa’s vision for the organization and eager for her to join our current team. The Board is setting the stage for program growth in order to meet growing community needs and opportunities. Cindy O’Brien, who has served as Executive Director for 7 years, is an expert in arts programming, developing integrated arts curriculum for school districts, and writing grants to fund the organization’s efforts. She will now focus exclusively on these priorities as she transitions to a part-time position as Program Director. She will continue her efforts to make the arts available to all children through in school and after school programs.” As a recent grandmother, this transition will allow Cindy to share more time with her family.
Ms. Marks moved to Augusta in 2009 and has since made a mark as the Chairman of Artists Row and most recently as the coordinator of ARTie – The Garden City’s Green Dragon. The 72’ dragon was made from recycled materials, built by 224 community volunteers and was an exciting addition to the Westobou Festival. In addition, Lisa pursues her passion for the arts through music and the creation of unique fine art photography. Lisa believes, “leading the Art Factory is the perfect marriage of my experience and my passion. I look forward to touching more young lives through the arts and elevating the organization’s visibility throughout our community.”
Join us at the wall for the official opening of the latest Art on the Wall mural on the exterior of the Highland Ave. Water Treatment Facility! Come meet the 14 student artists from Augusta State University who worked under the direction of professor Janice Williams Whiting to design and paint the mural.
The students researched murals across the country, paintings, historical and contemporary art as the developed their mural design. They played with the ideas of perception and imagination which led to: What if you could see on the other side of the wall?
The students’ biggest challenge was learning to paint as a team and incorporating the vision of everyone. It was a wonderful learning process for everyone involved. The students were delighted to represent the ASU Art Department in their first public art commission. And the Art Factory is delighted to have their art on the wall!
